Why Live in Park Street, St Albans

Park Street is situated between St Albans and Radlett, and is within close proximity to excellent road and rail links. The area is an ideal option for families, professionals, and commuters. This Hertfordshire village has everything you would ever need, surrounded by beautiful countryside and many amenities. There is a strong sense of community in Park Street and a residents association, good local schools, and a wide range of property. Let’s dive a little deeper and discover why you should live in Park Street.

History

Park Street has a rich history; The area was once known as ‘Parke Street’ after the Norman Conquest and was part of the land grant given to St Albans Monastery in 793 AD. ‘Le Parkmulle’, the Park Street Mill, was first referred to in the 12th Century and was used for grinding flour. The mill also supplied St Albans Abbey with eels reared and trapped in the surrounding ponds. The mill was converted to offices in the 1980s but remains an important building in the centre of Park Street and is an attractive backdrop feature to the war memorial garden in the north of the village.

The Park Street & Frogmore Society, which covers the three villages of Park Street, Frogmore and Colney Street, has a fascinating section on local history and promotes interest in the area generally. Their website is full of reasons why Park Street is such a great place to live.

Transport

Park Street is a great place to live for accessing major road networks. The M1 to the west, M25 to the south and A1 to the east are all within a short drive. Park Street is also only 2 miles away from St Albans City Station, which has a regular fast Thameslink service that takes only 18 minutes to West Hampstead and 21 minutes to St Pancras International. If you’re keen to travel further than Central London for a dining experience, leaving Park Street at 9 am would get you to Paris in time for lunch. Should you fancy brunch and shopping closer to home, the trains at Park Street’s station will transport you to Watford in only 15 minutes, where you’ll find excellent restaurants, shops, and nightlife.
